Daniil Medvedev trolls US Open crowd after win: ‘I won because of you’

(CNN) — Daniil Medvedev has come to be this season’s US Open villain.
The Russian defeated Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 7-6(1), 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-4 — his next four-set triumph in consecutive times — but it turned out his unruly behaviour in the court that had fans lustily booing the 23-year-old at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Friday’s night session.
Medvedev first obtained below the lovers’ skin in the first set, when he received a code violation when he grabbed a towel out of a ballperson. His racquet withdrew when learning of the breach that chair umpire Damien Dumusois had given him.
After a confrontation with Dumusois, Medvedev placing a hand into his mind giving the middle finger outside of the perspective of Dumusois was picked up by TV cameras. Boos rained down in the crowd, and Lopez immediately became the fan favourite.
Medvedev raised his arms up motioning to the audience to continue going after he won, besieged by boos.
«Thank you all, men, because your energy gave me the triumph,» Medvedev said in a meeting court. «Because if you were not here, men, I probably would drop the game. Since I was tired, I was cramping. It had been hard on me. So I want all of you to be aware of when you sleep soundly tonight, I won because of you.»
The boos lasted.
«The energy you’re giving me now, guys, I think that it’ll be sufficient for the five following matches. I mean, the more you do that, the more I’ll win for you guys.»
Nothing new for Russian
When it comes to Medvedev controversy is nothing new. He had been fined $14,500 for infractions, such as tossing coins following a reduction.
He had been disqualified a year in Georgia for making a racist remark. Aggrieved a call went when playing Donald Young, he said to the chair umpire Sandy French — both Young and French are equally black —«I know that you are buddies. I am sure about it»
He later apologized.
Even the Russian, seeded fifth, has dominated the hard courts such as winning his first Masters 1000 title in the Western & Southern Open in the Cincinnati suburb of Mason, Ohio, earlier this month. His next opponent would likely be 118th-ranked qualifier Dominik Koepfer.
